Description
The daughter of Samuel Barkshire and Frances Newman, she was born into slavery in Boone County. She was held by the slaveholder Dickey Barkshire and was possibly transferred to Joseph and Nancy Hawkins. She was in Rising Sun by 1836, and was manumitted by Nancy Hawkins in 1848. She was named as heir in Nancy Hawkins' will and ultimately settled in Akron, Ohio.
