By the 1850 and 1860 censuses he is living in the household of a younger relative, possibly his son, William R. Rouse.; According to 'John Rouse of Virginia' (pages 25-26), Michael's wife Mary died in 1832. His second wife Lucinda died sometime before the 1850 census.; In 1847, Michael Rouse manumitted an enslaved man named Abraham and included a note of gratitude for his faithful service.
