Biography: Cassie Ketchum was interviewed in Crawfordsville, IN, in 1891 about her time serving as a nurse to E.R.S Canby. She was born in Prince Georges County, Maryland, enslaved to Nancy Sprigg (possibly Ann Sprigg) then given to a young cousin of Sprigg, Dr. Israel Canby. She lived in Boone County (Ky.) for several years, and married twice in Boone. Her first husband was John Griffin. Her second husband was Andy Ketchum. She relocated to Indiana with Dr. Canby.; Her mother died when she was an infant, her father died on a plantation of John Allen in MD. She had two brothers and one sister. The 1816 appraisal of Ann Sprigg's estate mentions her at 13 years of age with an assigned value of $300. She was transferred to Sarah Canby, cousin of Ann Sprigg. She could possibly also be known as Cassy Ketchum.
