Description
The site was originally built as the Petersburg Steam Mill Company. Aside from the fact that the mill was steam-powered, little else is known of this period. The original distillery on this site was in operation by 1833, becoming first the Petersburg Distillery, then the Boone County Distillery. The final official name of the business was the Boone County Distilling Company.
The Boone County Distilling Company was a major local industry active from before the Civil War through 1916, located on the Ohio River in Petersburg. At it's height, the distillery operation consisted of approximately 25 buildings, all but three have been demolished.
