Biography
Five freedom seekers held by James Stephens of Boone county escaped circa 1852, through Rising Sun, Indiana. They were hidden by Nancy Hawkins, a former slaveholder who became a part of the Underground Railroad network run by Samuel Barkshire. The freedom seekers consisted of three men and two women.
