Biography: In late-summer, 1807, a freedom seeker named Nick escaped Fayette County enslaver Jacob Sageser. Nick was travelling with a white woman and "mulatto" child, likely his family. He was described as about six feet tall and had a "blemish in his right eye. Nick could read and write and it was suspected that he would have written himself a pass.
