Per the 1828 will of Green Clay, Scotty to be held in trust by "trusted friend" William McClanahan, for the use of daughter Sally Ann (Clay) Smith and her heirs forever. The will states that the children of Green Clay may manumit any enslaved people held in trust for their benefit.
