Found in 1850 and 1860 Censuses living in Petersburg, Kentucky. Found living out the rest of his life from 1870 Census until death in Lynchburg, Moore County, Tennessee.

In 1870 he was living in the household of his future father-in-law, John M. Hughes, in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
He is listed among the "Storekeepers and Gaugers" appointed by the Internal Revenue Service for the Fifth District of Tennessee, 1 Jul 1881. He worked in Lynchburg.
John's death date is unknown. His youngest child was born 29 Dec 1899, but his wife filed for her widow's pension 29 May 1900. She is also listed as a widow in the 1900 census, recorded 1 Jun 1900.
