On August 26, 1913 Clifton Atha filed an application for confederate pension. Atha wrote that he was a prisoner of war at Stone River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Clifton Atha also listed he was assigned to Co. A, 2nd Battalion, Tennessee Calvary, under General Wheeler, Buford's Cavalry.

The family moved to Missouri following the end of the Civil War. In 1870 they were living in Lafayette, Clinton County, Missouri. Clifton's mother Celia lived with them.

By 1920 Clifton and Mary were living in the home of their married daughter, Emma Ferry, in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri.
