In 1872 he resided in Lexington (Ky.) and was employed by James Headly.

Isaac was a runaway who was captured and kept in the Boone County Jail in 1829 while an advertisement was run for his slaveholder. After five months, the court ordered he be "hired out" to cover the expenses of his time in jail. If an slaveholder did not appear, he would be auctioned.

Lewis Patterson Johnson's enlistment record shows his place of birth as Vermont. He was wounded in action via gunshot. He entered a veterans' hospital in Dayton (Ohio) in February 1884 and died there on March 16, 1885. Other records state his place of birth as Boone County (Ky.) and also include a notation of "E 12, grave 22."
