The house that became known as Winfield Cottage is perhaps the most historically significant building associated with the area around Piatt's Landing, and was the main residence for the Piatts and later families to live in the area.

"This modest frame building was built in the last quarter of the 19th century (exact date unknown). It served as a doctor's office until the 1930s, then remained vacant for about 20 years. It was then used intermittently for the next 50 years. In the 1980s it was renovated and converted to a residence.

This sign was put up in 1984 in remembrance of the early settlers of the Carlton Precinct, using information from Lake's '1883 Atlas of Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties'.

The cemetery south of the church has been in use from the 1960s, while the cemetery to the north was not used until the mid-20th century. A privy behind the church was constructed after the church's period of significance. --National Register Nomination
