Description
Historic Status: Demolished
This property is also known as the Smith House and listed as “Property Type 1H: Cruciform House One of Boone County's least prevalent house types is the cruciform house. Built with a floor plan approximating the form of a Greek cross, Property Type 1H buildings are one or two stories in height and feature a steeply-pitched, intersecting gable roof. The earliest surviving examples, dating from the decade following the Civil War, exhibit Gothic Revival or Italianate styling.” There were only eight documented structures of the Cruciform style in Boone County. The house was located just past the Fairgrounds on the righthand side of the road on what is now England-Idlewild Park property. On the 1985 aerial photo, you can clearly see the cruciform outline. The house was demolished between 1994 and 1999.
