Description
-
Enslaved people from slaveholders in Boone County and Kenton County (Buckner, Graves, Cleveland, Lindsay, Stephens, Sanford, Scott, and Timberlake) escaped in two groups. The second was about 11 people in May 1847.
-
After the first, larger group escaped, slaveholders began selling off enslaved people fearing losses if more sought freedom. Learning they were to be sold, another group headed north just a few weeks after the first.
