Biography
"Mary Gordon was born in Hampstead, New Hampshire and attended a local school where her future husband, Silas, taught in the 1790s. The couple married in 1806 but she remained in New Hampshire to give birth to their eldest child while Silas prepared a home for his family in Mississippi. The couple eventually had seven children, though only two sons survived to adults. Following the vicissitudes of her husband's career, she was very pleased when James and Martha Dinsmore became her neighbors in 1842." --Cathy Callopy
