Description

Organized September 2, 1862, these volunteer units built fortifications in Northern Kentucky to protect the city of Cincinnati from Confederate troops. Under the command of General Lew Wallace, they cut down trees, dug rifle pits, and built roads and forts. They labored for three weeks. With the threat to Cincinnati ebbing, the units were disbanded on September 20, 1862.
