- The Berkshires were a large, prosperous, and long standing Boone County family. Richard (Dickey) Berkshire and his wife, Nanney, are first of the family to be listed in the 1800 Boone County tax records. Dickey and Nanney had nine children including: Jeremiah; William; John; Joel; Betsy (Elizabeth); Sarah (Sally); Polly; Felix; and Garrett.
