In a letter from slaveholder Leonard Stephens to his brother William Stephens, he mentions that Julius Stephens enslists for the draft along with Jerry [9] and "Lize" (Elijah Buckner). Leonard speculated that Julius had died at "Saltville" but was hearing rumors that he had not.
