Dick was included in the 1829 inventory of the estate of Benjamin G. Willis, valued at $375. He was sold sometime before 1832 for $335.

Dick, "Little Lucy" and William were sold sometime between the 1829 estate appraisal and the 1832 widow's dower for their "notorious ill character as thieves, having rendered themselves troublesome at home as well as through the neighborhood.

According to the notation in the dower filing, Dick was "threatened with prosecution for his life, if not sent off." for his crimes.
