Description
-
Floor Plan: Shotgun
-
Located on Front Street in Petersburg, the Gaines House resembles a shotgun house in form, but is built to one-and-a-half stories. The narrow facade contains two bays; the steeply pitched roof is covered with metal shingles. An old, undated photo shows a Victorian spindlework porch, since removed.
-
The house appears to have been built for John G. Gaines during the Civil War. It changed hands many times over the next 100 years.
