African American, boy, Henry, an orphan living with Legrand Gaines (no age) is bound to him as an apprentice. From 1866 – 1870, only two instances of the same thing happening to white children has been found (an example would be Chas. Claudius Rouse, bound to Fielding Rouse, was to receive $100, horse bridle and saddle and suit of clothing upon completion of apprenticeship – Oct Term, Oct 3, 1870, p. 196).
