Description
The daughter of Samuel Barkshire and Frances Newman, she was born into slavery in Boone County. She was held by the slaveholder Dickey Barkshire, possibly transferred to Joseph and Nancy Hawkins. In Rising Sun by 1836, manumitted by Nancy Hawkins in 1848. She was named as heir in Nancy Hawkins' will and ultimately settled in Muscatine, Iowa.
