Biography
-
Milly was enslaved by William Kirtley in Madison County, Virginia. When Kirtley died in 1795, the people he enslaved were either distributed among family members or sold. Milly's mother, Nanny, was taken to Kentucky by Jeremiah Kirtley, William's son.
-
Milly may have been given to Elizabeth Kirtley Davis, William's daughter. Her son, Isaac Davis Jr. died in 1834. A woman named "Millie" and her five children were listed in his inventory.
