Biography
Burrell's enslaver, Reuben George, of Bourbon County, directed that all of his enslaved people be manumitted either upon the death of his wife or sooner. Additionally, he instructed that each of the younger enslaved boys be taught a trade. Burrell was trained as a blacksmith.
George's widow married joseph Hawkins, Jr. and moved to Boone County, it's likely that Burrell came with her. He was manumitted in 1836 in Boone County by the administrator of Rueben George's will, Joseph Kendrick.
