Description
-
Joseph Hawkins of Boone County sold a girl named "Sook" to William Brady, also of Boone County for 40 pounds sterling by a deed dated May 27, 1800. The document was filed with the Boone County clerk on January 10, 1801, witnessed by Jamison Hawkins and Dickey Barkshire. It's not clear if the grantor was Joseph Hawkins Sr. or his son.
-
A duplicated bill of sale was entered into evidence in a later dispute over the ownership of Suckey in Bourbon County Circuit Court. The copy entered in the court case included a passage that indicated this was a mortgage of Sukey.
-
"The condition of the above bill of sale is such if the above Hawkins should pay unto the above Brady 40 pounds on or before the 25th of December next (1800) when the above bill of sale shall be void else in law to remain in full force & virtue the day and date above written."
-
William Brady sold Sukey about two weeks after the repayment was due.
