On July 19, 1815, 24-yr-old Roberson, called "Rob" escaped from Fayette County enslaver, Matthew Flournoy. Roberson was described as about 5'9" tall, with a trim build and was an "artful, Kentucky-raised fellow." Roberson escaped with two other men, Antony and Cuffee. A reward of $20 was offered for the return of each man or $60 collectively
