Biography
On July 19, 1815, 20-yr-old Cuffee escaped from Fayette County enslaver, Matthew Flournoy. Cuffee was brought to Kentucky from South Carolina. He was described as very small and appeared much younger than his years. He spoke "after the manner of the Africans," though it's not clear if he was born in Africa. Cuffee escaped with two other men, Antony and Roberson. A reward of $20 was offered for the return of each man or $60 collectively
