On July 19, 1815, 27-yr-old Antony escaped from Fayette County enslaver, Matthew Flournoy. Antony was brought to Kentucky from South Carolina and spoke a "South Carolina dialect, mixed with sea phrases," likely Gullah. Antony escaped with two other men, Cuffee and Roberson. A reward of $20 was offered for the return of each man or $60 collectively
