Jack is mentioned in Emma Rouse Lloyd's book "Clasping Hands With Generations Past." He was held first by John Rouse, then by John's son, Thomas Rouse. In John Rouse's inventory (1861) "Jackson" is listed as the only enslaved person held. Lloyd's book says that Jack was "heired" to Thomas from his family and describes him as a "young fellow" in her memory.
