He was wounded at the Battle of Little Sugar Creek (Dunagin's Farm), near Elkhorn, Arkansas, on March 7, 1862. He "was sorely wounded through right breast disabling him permanently." Afterwards, he was put on light duty. After the war, he bacame a doctor.
