Description: Named for a lake in southwestern Maine, the first Sebago-a double-ended sidewheel gunboat built by the Portsmouth (N.H.) Navy Yard-was launched on 30 November 1861; and commissioned on 26 March 1862, Lt. Edmund W. Henry in command.; The vessel served as a blockade vessel throughout the Civil War, serving in the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, the South Atlantic Blocking Squadron, and the West Gulf Blockading Squadron. She was also part of the Battle of Mobile Bay.; After peace returned, Sebago sailed north and was decommissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 29 July 1865.
