Marquis, Matthew
Matthew Marquis was born in Virginia, where he married Elizabeth Wayland in 1801. Marquis died in Boone County in January 1832 and is buried in the family cemetery in Florence, Kentucky.

Mosby, Benjamin
Benjamin Mosby died in Boone County in Dec. 1815. He left behind a widow, Mary, and four married sisters in Virginia at the time of his death; his parents were deceased and he had no brothers. He owned thousands of acres and held between 25 and 30 enslaved people during the few years he lived in Boone County. The administrator of his estate, Moses Scott, made notations in the settlement of his accounts that indicate several escapes or attempted escapes.
