Lysander Howlett was born near Big Bone, Kentucky to William and Margaret Tharp Howlett. He lived his entire life with his parents and died within months of his father. Howlett never married.

Not much is known regarding John Howlett in Boone County. He is most likely related to William Howlett (b 1797) and may be William's father- although there is no direct evidence at this time.
